Islamabad: Apple is preparing to unveil a new AI-driven battery management system as part of its upcoming iOS 19 update, a move designed to enhance iPhone battery life by learning and adapting to individual user habits.

Sources familiar with the development said the feature will be integrated into the broader Apple Intelligence initiative, which aims to embed artificial intelligence more deeply into the company’s core operating systems.

The intelligent battery system will use on-device machine learning and predictive algorithms to monitor how users interact with their iPhones and dynamically adjust power consumption accordingly.

This means energy usage will be optimized in real-time, potentially extending battery performance without requiring user input.

A new lock-screen indicator showing estimated charging time is also expected to be part of the update.

New Feature Roll Out

The new feature will roll out this September across all iPhones that support iOS 19. It is expected to play a crucial role in compensating for hardware changes in the iPhone 17, which is rumored to have a thinner form factor and a smaller battery.

The battery-saving AI functions are therefore seen as essential to maintaining user experience, despite the reduction in physical battery size.

This initiative reflects Apple’s broader push to remain competitive in the artificial intelligence space, especially as it seeks to keep pace with innovations from rivals like OpenAI and Google.

By using user data securely and optimizing energy usage across both apps and core system functions, Apple aims to make devices smarter and more efficient without compromising on privacy.

While Apple has not officially commented on the development, insiders say this innovation is a key part of the company’s evolving strategy to integrate AI technologies across its ecosystem.

The rollout of this battery feature also comes amid delays in the release of other Apple Intelligence functions, such as the revamped Siri, which is still under development.

In addition to energy efficiency upgrades, iOS 19 is expected to introduce a refreshed interface—internally codenamed “Solarium”—along with enhanced cross-platform features for improved synergy between iPad and Mac devices.

Apple is set to formally reveal iOS 19 during its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 9, with the public release scheduled for the fall.

Looking further ahead, Apple is also working on an AI-powered health application, known internally as “Mulberry”, though this feature is not expected to launch until 2026.
