Islamabad, Dec 11: Apple plans to eliminate the notch from its MacBook Pro lineup by 2026, based on a roadmap shared by research firm Omdia. The upcoming 14-inch and 16-inch models will feature a hole-punch camera design instead of the notch.
Although specifics are not fully clear, the change may involve a small pinhole camera or a Dynamic Island-like feature, similar to the one on iPhones, which could show system alerts like battery notifications.
While this feature may not be as significant on macOS as on iOS, removing the notch will increase the usable screen space, allowing more pixels for the macOS menu bar and creating a more uniform screen design.
This redesign also aligns with previous reports that suggest 2026 MacBook Pro models will come with OLED displays. OLED technology would enhance contrast and color accuracy, improving upon the current Mini-LED panels.
The redesign is expected to make the MacBook Pro thinner and include updated hardware components.
This will be the first major design update since 2021, reflecting Apple’s shift toward functional and structural changes to meet evolving hardware trends and improve the user experience.
