Islamabad, Feb 15: Apple has expanded the reach of its Apple TV app beyond smart TVs running Android TV or Google TV. For the first time, Android users can now install the app directly on their smartphones and tablets, provided their devices run on Android 10 or later.
This long-overdue move comes five years after the launch of Apple TV+, which was previously accessible to Android users only through a web browser. Until now, the Apple TV app remained exclusive to Apple devices and a limited selection of smart TVs.
What Android Users Can Access on the Apple TV App
With this rollout, Android users can now enjoy Apple TV+ originals, movies, and the MLS Season Pass on their mobile devices. The MLS Season Pass, designed for soccer enthusiasts, costs $12.99 per month or $79 per season. Meanwhile, Apple TV+ subscriptions are available for $9.99 per month. Additionally, Apple has integrated its exclusive Friday Night Baseball live broadcasts into the app.

Users can sign in using an existing Apple ID or create a new account directly within the app. However, one major limitation remains—Android users cannot rent or purchase movies and shows through the app.
A Long-Awaited But Expected Expansion
While this update is a significant improvement, it raises questions about why Apple took so long to launch an official Apple TV app for Android smartphones. Apple has traditionally been slow in bringing its services to competing platforms, and even now, the global availability of the app remains unclear. Some reports suggest that in certain regions, such as Europe, the app is still restricted to smart TVs.
Despite the delay, this launch is a welcome change for Android users subscribed to Apple TV+. It provides a smoother and more accessible streaming experience—one that many believe should have been available years ago.
