Islamabad, Apr 25m 2025: Apple is preparing to take a bold leap in smartphone performance by introducing 12GB of RAM across its entire iPhone 17 lineup—marking a major upgrade from the current 8GB found in the iPhone 16 series.
The upcoming iPhone 17 family is expected to include four models: the standard iPhone 17, the iPhone 17 Pro, the high-end iPhone 17 Pro Max, and a new ultra-thin model called the iPhone 17 Air, which will reportedly replace the current Plus variant.
Respected Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has revealed that Apple has already locked in 12GB of RAM for the iPhone 17 Pro, Pro Max, and Air models.
Whether the base iPhone 17 will receive the same treatment is still under consideration, with the final decision expected by May 2025.
However, Kuo believes that all models will likely adopt 12GB RAM in the iPhone 18 series by 2026, even if the standard iPhone 17 remains at 8GB for now.

Why is Apple increasing the RAM?
This significant memory upgrade aims to enhance support for advanced AI functions and improve device multitasking.
More RAM will allow iPhones to run complex on-device AI processes more efficiently, delivering faster response times and better performance overall.
With competition heating up in the premium smartphone segment, Apple’s RAM expansion keeps it ahead in both innovation and user experience.
Moreover, this move benefits Apple’s supply chain partners like Micron and SK Hynix.
Micron, in particular, is poised to profit as AI-focused memory chips gain popularity.
Notably, 12GB DRAM is nearly 50% more expensive than 8GB, giving suppliers a clear financial edge.
Expected iPhone 17 Release Timeline
Apple is likely to unveil the iPhone 17 series in September 2025. Whether the base model will match the Pro variants in terms of RAM is still uncertain.
However, the trend clearly points to 12GB becoming the new standard in future iPhones.
With its commitment to powerful on-device AI and seamless multitasking, Apple’s next-gen iPhones are shaping up to redefine mobile performance.
The iPhone 17 models are expected to set a new benchmark for flagship devices, offering a faster, smarter, and smoother user experience than ever before.
