Islamabad, Dec 30: Arif Saeed has been elected unopposed as the president of the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) for the four-year term from 2025 to 2029. A veteran leader with over 20 years of experience leading the Pakistan Rugby Union, Saeed was the frontrunner for the position and aims to bring a progressive vision to the country’s sports landscape.
Key figures in sports administration have also joined the POA’s new leadership team. Khalid Mahmood has been re-elected as secretary general for a fourth consecutive term. Mahmood, who also presides over the Pakistan Boxing Federation, is valued for his stability and experience.
Ahmar Malik, a new entrant in the POA elections, has been elected as treasurer. Currently the president of the Pakistan Table Tennis Federation, Malik’s appointment is seen as a dynamic addition to the leadership team.
Other positions were also filled without opposition. Mohammad Jahangir has been elected associate secretary, while Fatima Lakhani will take on the role of senior vice president. In a step towards improved gender representation, Andaleeb and Ishrat Fatima have been appointed as women’s vice presidents. These elections were uncontested, with no nominations filed against them by the deadline on Saturday.
The elections for the remaining positions are scheduled to proceed today (Monday) as per the original timeline.
