LAHORE, May 29, 2025: Serious revelations of financial irregularities, ineligible recipients and data failure have appeared in Punjab government’s Ramadan Nigehban Package 2024.

An audit report, of the initiative that was carried out during the holy month of Ramazan 2024 for low-income population, has revealed that 9,300 government employees who did not meet the merit for the scheme availed food hampers worth Rs. 34.6 million.

According to the audit report, packets worth Rs 1.63 billion were not received by 441,000 deserving recipients in Lahore, Rahim Yar Khan, Faisalabad and Rawalpindi. The report also says that Rs. 1.81 billion was lost due to incorrect data.

Around 500,000 packets of rations were given to recipients whose addresses were wrong. The audit report also questions the distribution in the absence of correct addresses.

Punjab Food Authority (PFA) was also found negligent in quality checking according to the audit report, which further said that the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) is responsible for in providing faulty data, failure to check the address of Deputy Commissioners, mismanagement in transport, and BISP in not updating the list of eligible recipients.
