Islamabad 5 August: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar has strongly condemned India’s revocation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special constitutional status, calling August 5 the “darkest day” in the region’s history.

In a video statement on Monday, Tarar said the day is globally observed as ‘Youm-e-Istehsal’ to protest against India’s unilateral move in 2019, which stripped Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) of its autonomy and basic rights.

He said the decision was part of India’s agenda to tighten its illegal control and suppress the voices of the Kashmiri people, who have long been subjected to oppression and denied their right to self-determination.

“India’s brutality in Kashmir has been exposed before the world. The revocation of Article 370 was not only illegal but also a gross violation of human rights and UN resolutions,” the minister said.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s unwavering support, Tarar added, “Every Pakistani considers Kashmir their jugular vein and stands shoulder to shoulder with the people of Kashmir.”

He emphasized that Pakistan would continue to raise its voice on every platform until the Kashmiri people are granted their right to self-determination, as guaranteed by the United Nations.

Tarar expressed hope that justice would prevail and the Kashmiri people would ultimately reclaim their rights and freedom.
