Islamabad, Oct 13: Babar Azam Likely to be Dropped Ahead of 2nd Test Match. Babar Azam’s spot in the Test team appears to be in jeopardy as he is probably going to be left off the squad for the second Test match against England, according to reports.
The middle-order batsman has not scored even a half-century in his last 18 Test innings (9 matches), placing him among the lowest scorers in the world over the last 12 months. Babar’s bad run of form has been a big source of concern for the national team. With just 35 runs scored in two innings during the first Test, Babar Azam was criticized even more for his lackluster performance on a flat pitch.
In responsibility of choosing the team for the second Test is Pakistan’s new selection committee, which includes Azhar Ali, Asad Shafiq, Hasan Cheema, Aqib Javed, and former umpire Aleem Dar. It is expected that Babar will be replaced in the side by either Mohammad Huraira or Kamran Ghulam.
When the second Test begins in Multan on October 15, Pakistan will be hoping to make amends for their innings-and-47-run defeat in the first Test. It will take time to determine whether Babar’s removal from the team was the right move.
