Islamabad, Aug 6, 2025: Former skipper Babar Azam is being considered for a comeback to Pakistan’s T20 International squad ahead of the upcoming tri-series and the ACC Men’s Asia Cup 2025, insiders revealed on Tuesday.
This possible return comes after opening batter Fakhar Zaman suffer an injury during the recent T20I series versus the West Indies. The left-hander has now been sidelined from both the T20I and ODI for the rest of the Caribbean tour.
According to team sources, Fakhar has been advised by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to report to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore for treatment and recovery. However, his chances of participating in the Asia Cup are still uncertain.
As a precautionary move, the PCB is now considering Babar Azam as a reliable backup. His spot in the T20I squad will depend on his performance in the ongoing ODI series against the West Indies.

The tournament starts on September 9 with a Group B encounter between Afghanistan and Hong Kong. Pakistan is in Group A with India, UAE, and Oman, and their campaign begins on September 12 against Oman, followed by games against India and UAE.
