Gilgit, Mar 3, 2025: The Baltistan Wildlife Conservation and Development Organization (BWCDO) marked this year’s World Wildlife Day with great enthusiasm, bringing together conservationists, government officials, and local residents to highlight the importance of protecting biodiversity.
The event saw active participation from team members of the Government Wildlife & Parks Department Skardu, Central Karakoram National Park (CKNP), and members of the local community, all coming together to celebrate their shared commitment to wildlife preservation.
This year’s theme, “Wildlife Conservation Finance: Investing in People and Planet,” closely aligns with BWCDO’s longstanding mission to promote harmony between humans and nature.
The organization has consistently worked towards empowering local communities by introducing sustainable economic opportunities, ensuring that conservation efforts benefit both people and wildlife.
Among BWCDO’s notable initiatives is the Livestock Insurance Scheme, a program designed to mitigate losses faced by herders due to predator attacks. By providing financial security to livestock owners.
The scheme not only supports local livelihoods but also reduces human-wildlife conflict, fostering coexistence between rural communities and the region’s diverse wildlife.
Looking ahead, BWCDO remains committed to expanding its conservation efforts with an even greater focus on inclusivity. The organization aims to strengthen partnerships and introduce more initiatives that ensure a balance between ecological preservation and community well-being.
By integrating financial sustainability into conservation, BWCDO hopes to create long-term solutions that benefit both the environment and the people who depend on it.
