Islamabad, DBangladesh’s U-19 team advanced to the final of the U-19 Asia Cup by defeating unbeaten Pakistan by seven wickets in the first semi-final on Friday. This dominant victory sets up a final showdown with India at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
After electing to bowl first, Bangladesh’s bowlers were exceptional, dismissing Pakistan for a modest total of 116. Iqbal Hossain Emon shone with the ball, claiming 4 wickets for 24 runs, while Maruf Mridha provided key support with 2 wickets.
Maruf Mridha dismissed Shahzaib Khan for a duck, while Farhan Yousaf scored 32 runs to become the top scorer for Pakistan.
In response, Bangladesh easily chased down the target in just 23 overs. Although Pakistan made early breakthroughs, removing both openers within the first eight overs, Bangladesh’s chase remained steady. However, Bangladesh’s chase went unchallenged from that point onwards.
Naveed Ahmad Khan dismissed Kalam Siddiki Aleen for a duck and Zawad Abrar for 17 runs. In the 17th over, Naveed Ahmad Khan sent Mohammad Shihab James back for 26 runs.
Captain Azizul Hakim led the chase with a crucial knock of 57 runs off 41 balls, including six fours and three sixes. He hit the winning four in the 21st over, leading Bangladesh to a comfortable victory with 167 balls to spare.
In the second semi-final earlier in the day, India comfortably defeated Sri Lanka at Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
India chased down Sri Lanka’s total of 173 runs in just 21.4 overs after Sri Lanka batted first and was bowled out in 46 overs.
Pakistan had entered the semi-final undefeated, having won all their group matches, including victories over India, UAE, and Japan.
