The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) recently announced a salary increase for players and match fees, but star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has yet to receive his salary for the last four months of 2024, despite being on a national contract.
BCB officials revealed that Shakib’s payment for September, October, November, and December had been delayed due to his bank account being frozen.
A board official confirmed that the issue arose due to the account freeze, and Shakib is expected to receive BDT 48 lakh (approximately USD 38,400) before taxes.
Shakib, who was awarded an all-formats contract by the BCB for 2024, had been part of a select group of players, including Litton Das, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, and others.
Shakib, who retired from Test and T20I cricket during the India Test series in September, had planned to play his final Test against South Africa. However, security concerns prevented him from returning for the series.
The star all-rounder had also faced political allegations linked to a murder case, but the BCB allowed him to continue representing the national team until the matter was resolved.
In November 2024, Shakib’s bank accounts were frozen, complicating his financial situation further.
Despite these setbacks, BCB Cricket Operations Chairman Nazmul Abedin assured that Shakib would receive his pending salary in accordance with his contract, emphasizing the board’s commitment to fulfilling its financial obligations.
