Bella and Gigi Hadid, American supermodel sisters, have pledged $1 million to support Palestinian relief efforts, demonstrating a profound solidarity. The donation will be evenly distributed among four humanitarian organizations dedicated to assisting children and families affected by the ongoing crisis in Gaza: Heal Palestine, Palestine Children’s Relief Fund, World Central Kitchen, and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency. These organizations play a vital role in providing essential aid such as food, medical assistance, psychological support, and aid for displaced families amid the ongoing conflict.
Daughters of Palestinian real estate magnate Mohamed Anwar Hadid, Bella and Gigi Hadid have been vocal advocates for the Palestinian cause. Their donation aims to address the dire humanitarian situation exacerbated by the ongoing Israeli aggression in Gaza. Bella, in a poignant Instagram post in May, expressed her profound sadness over the “devastating loss of the Palestinian people” and criticized the lack of empathy from governments worldwide.
The sisters’ dedication to the Palestinian people was further underscored when Bella wore a dress made from a keffiyeh, a traditional Arabic cloth associated with Palestinian culture, to the Cannes Film Festival. She described it as a “beautiful way to represent the history, labor of love, resilience, and, most importantly, the art of historic Palestinian embroidery.”
Gigi has also expressed her sorrow over the Palestinian struggle under occupation and stressed the importance of mutual respect and understanding. While US President Joe Biden recently urged Hamas to consider an Israeli proposal that could potentially end the military aggression, the call for peace comes amid severe casualties in Gaza. Since October 7, the fresh wave of violence by Israeli forces has reportedly claimed the lives of more than 36,000 people in Gaza, according to the local health authority.
