Islamabad, Aug 16, 2025: Ben McDermott lit up the opening game of the Guyana Amazon Warriors in CPL 2025, as the Australian hammered 75 runs off 39 balls to get his team a five-wicket win over St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. Held by an unbeaten 56 of Shai Hope, the 154 run chase was completed with 16 deliveries to spare following a great bowling performance that restricted the Patriots.
Sent into bat, Patriots lost their momentum early when Evin Lewis was retired hurt. The catch of 60 by Andre Fletcher made them stay afloat but wickets regularly collapsed and Dwaine Pretorius took three and Imran Tahir claimed two. Late hits by Jyd Goolie and Abbas Afridi took the total to 153 for 8 that again was not a big total that could be considered competitive.
In response, Amazon Warriors dismissed a first inning defeat with a dominant stand at the second wicket. McDermott was aggressive, and smacked an array of fours and sixes, as he railed 10 fours and four sixes, to make sure his team had an equal power play show as the opposition. Then hope got the upper hand, and increased its might to overhaul the course, and finish up the pursuit unsurprisingly.

The loss negated the momentum that Patriots gained with their first win the previous night. However, to Warriors, it was an eye opener that McDermott have explosiveness and Hope has the composure making them be title favourites early on. The player-of-the-Match was Ben McDermott whose explosives characterized the game.
