Islamabad, Dec 3: Benedicte Schilbred Fasmer officially began her tenure as CEO of Telenor on December 2, 2024. Before joining Telenor, Fasmer was the CEO of Sparebank1 Sør-Norge, and in recent weeks, she has been familiarizing herself with the company by meeting new colleagues.
In her new role, Fasmer expressed her excitement to listen, learn, and understand Telenor’s business, customers, and people. She noted, “I have already met many talented people who are really passionate about Telenor’s success. I really look forward to officially joining the team.”
Leadership Transition
Fasmer takes over from Sigve Brekke, who led Telenor for over nine years. The appointment, announced in May, is now official. Jens Petter Olsen, Chairman of Telenor’s Board, expressed confidence in Fasmer’s leadership, noting her strong vision and leadership experience, particularly in driving innovation within rapidly advancing technological sectors.

With a background in group management at DNB and Fremtind Forsikring, and as CEO of Sparebank 1 Sør-Norge, Fasmer brings significant leadership experience. At Telenor, she will lead over 11,000 employees in the Nordics and Asia, overseeing operations in eight markets with 211 million subscriptions.
Fasmer emphasized the company’s role in society, saying, “Telenor, with over 170 years of history, stands as a cornerstone of society. Our services and infrastructure are integral to the communities we serve and our customers’ daily lives.” She is eager to explore the opportunities technology presents for Telenor’s continued success.
