In the federal capital, one out of every five heavy transport vehicles has been found violating national environmental standards.

According to the latest report by Pak-EPA, the major causes of pollution include rapid population growth, industrial activities, the increasing number of vehicles on city roads, deforestation, poor engine maintenance, and the use of substandard fuel.

In this regard, Pak-EPA teams inspected a total of 100 heavy-duty vehicles, including diesel trucks, loaders, and public buses, during an enforcement operation. Out of these 100 heavy transport vehicles, 20% were found violating environmental standards.

The report has recommended a comprehensive review of the vehicle fitness certification system. DG Pak-EPA Nazia Zeb Ali stated that the black smoke, carbon monoxide, and noise emitted from vehicles not only pollute the air but also pose serious health risks to citizens.
