Islamabad, Feb 17: The Study UK Alumni Awards 2025 ceremony, held in Karachi, celebrated the remarkable achievements of UK alumni in Pakistan, recognizing their contributions in business, innovation, creativity, sustainability, and social impact. The event, organized by the British Deputy High Commission and the British Council in Pakistan, was graced by Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Minister of Federal Education and Professional Training, himself a UK alumnus.

The prestigious awards honored Pakistani professionals who have leveraged their UK education to create a meaningful impact in their respective fields, while also strengthening ties between Pakistan and the UK. Winners were selected by an independent judging panel across four categories:

  • Business and Innovation Award – Asad Aslam, a Queen Mary University of London graduate, was recognized for developing an AI-based infant incubator, addressing the lack of locally made medical devices for premature babies in Pakistan.
  • Culture and Creativity Award – Zehra Shallwani, a King’s College London graduate and founder of Dastaan Tours Pvt Ltd, was awarded for her eco-tourism initiatives that empower local communities and promote sustainable travel in Pakistan.
  • Science and Sustainability Award – Dr. Muhammad Abul Hasan, an Associate Professor at NED University and a University of Glasgow graduate, received the award for co-leading Pakistan’s first Neurocomputation Lab at the National Center for AI.
  • Social Action Award – Sheeba Asad, a University of Leicester graduate, was honored for developing FALAH, a groundbreaking digital platform to combat Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in Pakistan.

James Hampson, Country Director of the British Council Pakistan, praised the winners, stating:
“It is a privilege to honor individuals who have benefited from the UK’s world-class higher education system and have made a profound impact in their communities. This year’s awards showcase the incredible talent of UK alumni across Pakistan.”

The Study UK Alumni Awards have been running for 11 years, receiving over 1,300 applications from more than 100 countries, representing nearly 120 UK universities. This global recognition highlights the outstanding accomplishments of international UK alumni who drive innovation, lead change, and create lasting impact worldwide.
