Islamabad, June 9, 2025: In the Federal Budget 2025-26, Pakistan has allocated Rs. 11.55 billion for the Ministry of Defence’s development program. The new budget will continue 22 ongoing projects under the ministry. A key highlight includes the allocation of Rs. 4 billion for the completion of the New Gwadar International Airport.

To modernize the Hydro-Met project, Rs. 2.89 billion have been set aside, while Rs. 200 million are allocated for the construction of the Kassana Dam to supply water to Islamabad Airport. Weather radar installations in Multan and Sukkur will receive Rs. 125 million.

The ASF Academy in Karachi will be upgraded with Rs. 16 million, and Rs. 100 million are earmarked for residential buildings for ASF personnel at Faisalabad Airport. Notably, the development budget also includes projects using Artificial Intelligence, with Rs. 280 million set aside for its application in agriculture and aerospace.

Rs. 1.93 billion will fund the establishment of a National University in Islamabad. Additionally, Rs. 130 million are earmarked for the purchase of drones and pollution control equipment for law enforcement agencies.

Interestingly, no new projects have been included under the Ministry of Housing for the upcoming year. However, Rs. 2.30 billion are allocated for the 21 ongoing housing and works projects. Renovation of the Prime Minister’s Office and Staff Colony in Islamabad will receive Rs. 65 million and Rs. 55 million respectively.

Rs. 110 million have been proposed for construction and repair of government buildings, while Rs. 500 million are proposed for the Green Line BRT project in Karachi. Rs. 130 million are suggested for the construction of 12 new apartments in Minister’s Enclave, and Rs. 80 million for development schemes in Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas under the Prime Minister’s Program.

Furthermore, Rs. 50 million are proposed for installing new elevators at Shaheed Millat Secretariat.

The development budget for the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication has been cut by Rs. 10.4 billion compared to the current fiscal year. The new budget sets aside Rs. 13.52 billion for the IT and telecom sector, with no new IT projects introduced. However, 12 ongoing projects will continue.

Key IT allocations include Rs. 4.91 billion for building a Technology Park in Islamabad and Rs. 4 billion for an IT Park in Karachi. The digital economy enhancement project is set to receive Rs. 1.97 billion. Rs. 500 million each are earmarked for IT startups and training, as well as revamping the IT industry. Another Rs. 500 million are allocated to improve mobile services in Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Rs. 97.1 million are dedicated to the “One Patient One ID” project, while Rs. 250 million are allocated to enhance cybersecurity under the Digital Pakistan initiative.
