On August 24 (Sunday), Australia turned in a savage batting demonstration in Mackay, scoring 431/2 in 50 overs against South Africa, with centuries by Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh, and Cameron Green. This is the second-highest One-Day International (ODI) score by them. Their highest was in the preceding game which was 434/4 against South Africa in Johannesburg of 2006, which they lost.

The massive innings were recorded to see Head and Marsh add the highest opening partnership against South Africa in ODIs, and Green make history with his scorching knock. He also scored his first ODI century in just 47 balls, making him the second-fastest Australian to score a century after Glenn Maxwell who scored a century in 40 balls against the Netherlands in 2023. The strike rate exploded beyond 212 in the 48 th over with a statement mid-wicket loft that found itself in the touchline.

This was also the first instance of three Australians scoring hundreds in a one day international innings. Cameron Green was in a terrible form with scores of 35, 3, 9, 9, and 35 in the last several games, but finally broke his slump with an incredible performance leaving the fans and critics in awe. In the meantime South Africa has an unattainable 2-0 leadership in a three match series.
