Islamabad, Jan 18: A meeting on Islamabad’s water issues was held at the CDA Headquarters under the chairmanship of CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa. The meeting was attended by CDA members, the Director General (DG) Islamabad Water, and other senior officers.
During the meeting, DG Water gave briefing on the restoration of water filtration plants and the installation of sewage treatment plants in Islamabad for controlling contamination of water in the Rawal Dam.
During the briefing, it was apprised that the quality of water at all filtration plants is being ensured according to WHO standards.
Additionally, the water quality of the filtration plants will be tested quarterly through third-party validation by PCRW.
Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa directed the immediate restoration and repair of all water filtration plants installed in Islamabad. He also instructed that a comprehensive survey of all filtration plants in the city be completed promptly.
Chairman CDA directed the Member Finance to ensure the immediate release of necessary funds for the repair and restoration of water filtration plants. He also suggested considering the option of outsourcing for the long-term maintenance and repair of these filtration plants.
Chairman CDA emphasized expediting the installation of Sewage Treatment Plants (STP) to control water contamination in Rawal Dam. The meeting was briefed that three Sewage Treatment Plants are being installed at Bari Imam, Bani Gala, and Simly Dam Road. Furthermore, tenders for all three sewage treatment plants have been opened, and after the scrutiny of the bids, the installation process will commence soon.
Chairman CDA also instructed all housing societies to ensure the immediate installation of sewage treatment plants.
Additionally, he directed the exploration of more wetland options within Islamabad to enhance environmental sustainability.
