Islamabad, Aug 6, 2025: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to initiate fencing of Margalla Hills National Park (MHNP) to clearly separate it from surrounding private land and prevent illegal occupations. The installation will begin from the Taxila side and extend towards Murree, ensuring a defined boundary.

According to officials, unclear borders have long allowed land encroachers to claim portions of state property. With fencing in place, the difference between private holdings and protected parkland in Zone III will be clearly established.

Sources revealed that CDA Chairman Mohammad Ali Randhawa, accompanied by board members, recently surveyed the area ahead of the project’s launch. He stated that MHNP is a vital ecological and visual asset of Islamabad, and the CDA, in coordination with agencies like the Ministry of Climate Change, is committed to its preservation.

The engineering wing has already been instructed to start work without delay, and the authority aims to finish the fencing in record time.

A CDA board member confirmed that unlike previous incomplete efforts, this time the fencing will move forward alongside the installation of permanent boundary pillars. Out of Zone III’s 50,000 acres, around 30,000 acres are part of the national park, while the rest is privately owned.

Despite the ban on development, local residents continue to build without proper planning, leading to slum-like conditions. Officials stressed the need for proper regulation, acquisition, or infrastructure development to bring order and fairness to Zone III.
