Islamabad, Feb 23: Pakistan’s cement industry has witnessed a significant surge in exports, recording a 24.85% increase during the first seven months of the fiscal year 2024-25. According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), cement exports rose to $188.091 million between July and January.

Compared to $150.653 million during the same period in the previous fiscal year. The sharp rise underscores growing international demand for Pakistani cement, strengthening the sector’s contribution to the country’s overall exports.

In terms of volume, the exports saw an even greater increase, with a 35.34% jump from 3.89 million metric tons in FY24 to 5.27 million metric tons in FY25. This growth indicates expanding market opportunities and the industry’s ability to compete in global markets despite economic challenges. However, the sector experienced notable fluctuations in export performance when analyzed on a monthly basis.

On a year-on-year (YoY) basis, cement exports in January 2025 surged by 40%, reaching $20.619 million compared to $14.728 million in January 2024. This increase reflects continued demand from key international buyers.

However, the momentum slowed on a month-on-month (MoM) basis, with exports declining by 35.36% compared to December 2024, when the figure stood at $31.898 million. The monthly decline suggests short-term volatility in global shipments, possibly influenced by seasonal factors, shifting market conditions, or logistical disruptions.

Despite the MoM dip, the overall positive trend in exports highlights the resilience of Pakistan’s cement industry. The growth in international sales is likely driven by competitive pricing, improved production capacity, and strategic efforts to tap into new markets.

With ongoing infrastructure development projects in various regions and steady demand from South Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, the cement sector is expected to remain a key contributor to Pakistan’s export growth in the coming months.
