Islamabad, Feb 8: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi announced on Friday that the selection committee is actively reviewing the squad for the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025.

Speaking to the media, Naqvi emphasized that the selection committee holds full authority to make necessary modifications to the squad.

He discussed selecting Khushdil Shah and Faheem Ashraf for the Tri-Nation series and Champions Trophy, which Pakistan will host.

” We selected Khushdil Shah and Faheem Ashraf with careful thought and good intentions,” Naqvi said.

In recognition of the workers’ efforts, the PCB also hosted a special luncheon for laborers who played a crucial role in the rapid renovation of Gaddafi Stadium, completing the upgrades within a remarkable 117 days.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s wicketkeeper-batter and captain, Mohammad Rizwan, weighed in on potential squad changes, asserting that alterations were not essential at this stage.

“No discussions have taken place regarding changes to the squad,” Rizwan stated. “The best possible team has been selected for the prestigious tournament.”

However, He further explained that the selection process was performance-driven, ensuring that only top-performing players made it to the 15-member squad. “Khushdil Shah and Faheem Ashraf have demonstrated excellent form recently,” he added.

Rizwan said they would finalize the playing XI based on match conditions.

However, he acknowledged the absence of Saim Ayub as a setback to the team’s overall combination.

Providing an update on Saim Ayub, a PCB spokesperson confirmed that the talented opener is making steady progress in his recovery from a right ankle fracture.

Ayub is recovering in England and will be out for 10 weeks from January 3.

His participation in the upcoming New Zealand tour will depend on his successful completion of all required fitness and medical tests.

However, Pakistan’s New Zealand tour, scheduled from March 16 to April 5, comprises five T20Is and three ODIs.

Although, The HBL Pakistan Super League will start on April 8, bringing an action-packed cricket season.
