Islamabad, June 30, 2025: Academy Award-winner Charlize Theron has reportedly secured her spot in Christopher Nolan upcoming film adaptation of The Odyssey, a role that seems tailor-made for the A-lister actress.

Following the success of his historical drama Oppenheimer, Nolan is now turning his focus to ancient literature by bringing Homer’s legendary Greek tale to the screen.

While the identities of many high-profile actors in The Odyssey remain undisclosed, it has now been revealed which character Theron will portray. Speaking with Variety during a red carpet event, Theron confirmed that she will take on the role of the sorceress goddess, Circe.

When asked about her preparations to play the goddess of sorcery, Theron shared, “I don’t know; I am just going to talk to Chris (Christopher Nolan) about it and will see where it goes.”

“It’s super intimidating,” she continued to confess and added, “I will be the last one to show up. I will be the new kid on the block. Everybody will know what they are doing and not me.”

In Homer’s original poem, Circe stands as one of the major figures who challenge Odysseus (to be played by Matt Damon). She lures him and his companions to her island, transforms several of his crew into beasts, and detains them for over a year. Although Nolan and Universal have yet to issue an official casting statement, Theron’s remarks verify her involvement as Circe.

Circe, both enchanting and dangerous, complicates Odysseus’ journey but later aids him as he continues his path. The inclusion of such a strong character suggests her chapter will be central to The Odyssey Christopher Nolan is crafting. Alongside Theron, only Damon as Odysseus and Tom Holland as Telemachus have been confirmed.
