Islamabad, Aug 15, 2025: Across Pakistan, the Chehlum of Imam Hussain (AS) and the martyrs of Karbala were commemorated with solemn processions and majalis. Authorities intensified security, sealing major roads and closely monitoring all gatherings to ensure public safety.

Lahore: 12,000 Police Personnel on Duty

Punjab Police have been placed on high alert for the Chehlum and the concluding day of the Urs of Hazrat Data Ali Hajveri. Inspector General Dr. Usman Anwar emphasized the importance of promoting interfaith harmony while overseeing 644 gatherings and 392 processions across the province. In total, 37,000 police personnel were deployed.

In Lahore, 12,000 officers secured 44 gatherings and 14 processions with support from traffic police, special units, and volunteers. Authorities installed 926 walk-through gates and 6,753 metal detectors, while Safe City cameras ensured continuous monitoring. Circular Road and Lower Mall Road were temporarily closed for the event.

Quetta: 22 Mourning Groups Participate

Quetta’s main procession started from Alamdar Road Imambargah Nichari, led by Balochistan Shia Conference President Ashiq Hussain Hazara. Over 2,000 police officers and comprehensive CCTV coverage safeguarded the sealed routes.

Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan: Secure Observances

Chehlum processions in Hunza, Gilgit, Nagar, and Skardu proceeded under strict security. Authorities also set up water stations and medical camps along procession routes to ensure safety and convenience for participants.

Hyderabad: Central Mourning Procession Monitored

Hyderabad’s central procession began at Karbala Dadan Shah, concluding at Qadam Gah Mola Ali. Roads were barricaded, and over 100 cameras monitored the event.

Sialkot and Sukkur: Traditional Routes Followed

In Sialkot, mourners walked from Imambargah Dar Batool, while Sukkur’s Arbaeen walk started at Military Road and ended at Karbala Maidan, Rohri. Women participants formed a significant portion of the crowds.

Rawalpindi: Snipers Ensure Security

Rawalpindi’s procession from Imambargah Ashiq Hussain in Teli Mohalla followed pre-scanned and sealed routes, with sniper shooters positioned on high-rise buildings for added security.

Karachi: Leaders Highlight Significance

Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori and Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah highlighted in their messages that the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain represents loyalty, sacrifice, and resilience in the face of oppression.

Multan: Nine Processions, Markets Closed

Multan witnessed nine processions originating from different areas of the city. Over 1,000 police personnel ensured smooth conduct, and markets along procession routes remained closed to manage crowds effectively.
