LONDON, August 26, 2025 — Chelsea are evaluating a move for Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez, with initial contact made through the player’s representatives. There has been no direct approach to Barcelona yet, but the Premier League side are exploring midfield options in case of further squad exits.

The 22-year-old signed a long-term contract with Barcelona until 2029, but competition for places under Hansi Flick remains strong with Pedri, Frenkie de Jong, Dani Olmo, Gavi, and Marc Casado all ahead in the pecking order.

Lopez featured in 46 games last season, scoring eight goals and providing 10 assists, despite missing over a month with a thigh injury. He ended the campaign in fine form, scoring in three of Barca’s last five league matches as the club lifted the La Liga title.

A La Masia graduate, Lopez made his Spain debut in June 2024 and has since earned two caps for the European champions.

Chelsea, under Enzo Maresca, have already added six players this summer, with Dario Essugo the only midfield arrival so far. Departures of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Carney Chukwuemeka, and Lesley Ugochukwu have left the Blues considering fresh reinforcements.

For now, Lopez remains focused on Barcelona, but Chelsea continue to monitor the situation closely as the transfer window develops.
