China has announced that it will send a Pakistani astronaut on a short-term mission to its space station, according to state media outlet Xinhua.

The astronaut will join the mission as a payload expert, the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA) confirmed during a press briefing on Thursday.

The initiative is part of the medium-term cooperation plan between the two countries for China’s space station program. The Pakistani astronaut will train alongside Chinese astronauts in preparation for the mission.

According to China’s Global Times, the astronaut will participate in routine onboard activities and conduct scientific experiments on Pakistan’s behalf during the mission.
