Islamabad, July 14, 2025: China has unveiled a new maglev train that can go as fast as 600 km per hour. This will lower the journey time between Beijing and Shanghai — two of the country’s top tourist cities — to just two and a half hours. Right now, travelling on the same route takes five and a half hours using a regular high-speed train.
This new train was built by the China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation. According to the South China Morning Post, the train has a smooth, sharp-nosed shape to lower wind resistance.
The train modern interior is shown in a video clip shared by state TV channel.
This super-fast maglev train will serve as a “point-to-point transport option” for big cities, working along with the current rail lines, as mentioned by Shanghai news outlet The Paper.

Since the mid-2000s, China’s high-speed rail system has grown quickly and is now the biggest in the world, with 48,000 kilometers of tracks by the end of 2024. The country’s railway company plans to expand it to over 50,000 kilometers within this year.
If in future a train like this will be launched in Pakistan, one can travel from Karachi to Lahore in just two and a half hours. As of today, it takes about two and a half hours to reach Lahore or Islamabad from Karachi via plane, and at least 18 to 20 hours by train.
