Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong has reaffirmed that China and Pakistan will strengthen cooperation under the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and jointly work for global peace, stability, and development through President Xi Jinping’s Global Governance Initiative.

Speaking at a media briefing on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent visit to China, the outcomes of the SCO Tianjin Summit, and the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the envoy highlighted the growing partnership between Beijing and Islamabad.

Jiang said the SCO Tianjin Summit, attended by over 20 world leaders including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, concluded the “China Year” of the organization on a high note, expanding its membership to 27 states. He noted that President Xi participated in nearly 20 bilateral and multilateral meetings, driving consensus on a wide-ranging 10-year development strategy, the establishment of an SCO development bank, new security centers, and multiple cooperation platforms.

China also pledged concrete support for member states, including 100 livelihood projects, 2 billion yuan in aid, 10 billion yuan in loans over the next three years, and 10,000 training opportunities within five years. Jiang said these measures reflect China’s commitment to global development and shared progress.

The ambassador praised Pakistan’s active role at the summit, noting that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif underscored the SCO as the best platform for regional integration and reaffirmed Pakistan’s solidarity with China in pursuing peace and prosperity.

On the Global Governance Initiative, Jiang said it builds on earlier Chinese proposals such as the Global Development, Global Security, and Global Civilization initiatives. He explained that it is based on five principles: sovereign equality, rule of law, multilateralism, a people-centered approach, and action-oriented cooperation. He added that Pakistan has fully endorsed the initiative, with Prime Minister Shehbaz describing it as a historic step toward stronger multilateralism.

The envoy also linked the initiative to the 80th anniversary of the victory in World War II, stressing that remembering history is about upholding peace, not perpetuating hatred. He noted that more than 35 million Chinese people sacrificed their lives during the war, emphasizing that today’s nations must unite against hegemonic practices as they once did against fascism.

Jiang concluded by reaffirming that China’s modernization path is rooted in peaceful development. “China and Pakistan, having both suffered from aggression, are committed to safeguarding fairness, justice, and global peace,” he said.
