Islamabad, Oct 29: Chinese-Pakistani Firms Join B2B Investment Meeting on Fisheries in Qingdao. The inaugural Pakistan-China B2B Investment Meeting on Fisheries took place Tuesday in Qingdao, Shandong province, China, with participation from up to 45 Chinese and 28 Pakistani firms.
The gathering was the first of several industry-specific gatherings aimed at encouraging collaborations and partnerships between Chinese and Pakistani businesses. To further encourage commerce and investment between the two nations, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited China in June 2024, and this event is a follow-up to that visit.
In his remarks, Sun Huanjiang, a CPC Committee Member from the Qingdao Municipal Marine Development Bureau, reaffirmed Pakistan and China’s historic All Weather Cooperative Partnership.
According to him, China was prepared to support Pakistan’s blue economy development by enhancing trade, investment, industrial cooperation, and scientific and technology exchanges. Rahim Hayat Qureshi, secretary of the Board of Investment, praised China and Pakistan’s close cooperation in a number of areas.
He called for greater collaboration between companies in the two nations in order to promote win-win outcomes. He also gave a thorough presentation outlining Pakistan’s fishing industry and the benefits the Pakistani government provides to Chinese companies.
The Ambassador highlighted Pakistan’s abundant marine resources and urged Chinese businesses to explore long-term, mutually beneficial joint ventures and partnerships in aquaculture expansion, food processing, and export by utilizing Pakistan’s vast natural resources, low labor costs, and strategic location.
Eleven memorandums of understanding and one contract totaling $64 million were signed between Chinese and Pakistani businesses as the event came to an end. The Seafood Specialized Committee of China and the Pakistan Fishery Exports Association also signed a Memorandum of Understanding to expand trade and investment in the fisheries industry, as well as B2B exchanges and joint ventures.
The occasion was one of six scheduled gatherings to promote business-to-business contacts and provide forums for discussion and collaboration to boost investment and commerce between China and Pakistan.
