Islamabad, Jan 6: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has urged citizens to verify the status of housing societies before making investments by visiting its official website, www.rda.gop.pk. RDA Director General, Kinza Murtaza, highlighted that strict legal actions are being taken against housing schemes violating regulations, with 149 notices issued to illegal or unapproved schemes. This initiative aims to protect the public from financial exploitation and losses.
Ms. Murtaza warned the public not to invest in the 149 housing schemes that lack the necessary No Objection Certificates (NoCs) and approvals from the RDA. She explained that many of these unapproved schemes mislead citizens by offering ownership of properties that only exist on paper, with no actual development. She assured that the RDA is taking strict measures to prevent the public from falling victim to these illegal schemes.
Citizens are advised to always verify the legality of housing schemes before investing and consult the RDA to ensure their investment is secure. The RDA has also suspended the approval of new housing schemes. A comprehensive survey has classified housing projects into three categories based on their legal status. The RDA Task Force, following instructions from the Divisional Intelligence Committee, is actively cracking down on illegal housing schemes.
Recent operations targeted several illegal schemes, including Top View City (D-17), Al-Baraqa Garden, and others, leading to the demolition of infrastructure, security offices, sewerage lines, and the sealing of site offices. In addition, the RDA has launched a public awareness campaign to inform citizens about legal and illegal housing schemes.
Ms. Murtaza stated that only 69 housing schemes have RDA approval, while all others are deemed illegal. A list of non-compliant schemes has been compiled, and they will face legal action. The RDA assured that only approved housing schemes will be allowed to operate, with ongoing monitoring to safeguard public investments.
