Islamabad, Jan 21: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz Sharif launched the Honhaar Scholarship Programme in Dera Ghazi Khan on Monday, expressing her desire to extend the initiative to students from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) and Balochistan.
During the scholarship distribution ceremony, Maryam Nawaz awarded over Rs 30 million in scholarships to more than 1,200 students. “I wish to provide scholarships to the children of KPK and Balochistan. I ask for nothing in return, only that you respect your parents and make them proud,” she stated.
Speaking at the event, the CM emphasized that providing quality education and access to modern technology remains a top priority for the provincial government. She announced that laptops and e-bikes would also be distributed to students in the future.

Earlier, at the Honhaar Scholarship distribution ceremony held at Government College Women’s University Sialkot, Maryam Nawaz shared exciting news for high-achieving students. She pledged that students scoring above 65% marks would receive laptops, adding, “I will personally hand over these laptops to you very soon.”
Currently, 30,000 Honhaar Scholarships are distributed annually, but Maryam Nawaz acknowledged that this number is insufficient. She announced plans to increase the number of scholarships by 20,000, directing authorities to raise the total to 50,000 in next year’s budget.
