Islamabad, 7 May, 2025: In a dramatic development, a team from the Indian Air Force has been spotted at a crash site in Pampore, Pulwama district, collecting and clearing debris from one of their fighter jets, which was reportedly shot down by Pakistan.
The Recovery Operation
According to reports from multiple sources, including a BBC correspondent on the ground, the wreckage is being removed with the help of heavy machinery, such as bulldozers, while authorities have cordoned off the area to prevent unauthorized access.
Destroyed Fighter Jets have always been a sensitive topic, and the military’s efforts to secure the site reflect the high level of concern regarding the crash.

Local residents in Pampore described hearing a powerful explosion followed by the unmistakable sound of jet engines. Shortly after, parts of the aircraft were seen scattered across the town.
Eyewitnesses also mentioned observing fireball-like plumes and smoke rising from the wreckage.
These accounts, coupled with the swift recovery operation, have fueled speculation about the nature of the downed aircraft.
Heightened Tensions and Ongoing Investigation
Further details about the aircraft remain scarce. Although Indian authorities have yet to confirm the type of jet involved or its affiliation, the presence of Indian Air Force personnel at the crash site suggests it may have been an Indian fighter jet.
The area, previously a focal point of conflict, is especially sensitive, as it is near the site of a deadly 2019 suicide bombing that claimed the lives of over 40 Indian security personnel.

This incident follows claims from Pakistan about destroying multiple Destroyed Fighter Jets in a recent escalation, which Indian officials had initially denied.
The presence of the recovery teams now raises more questions about the true nature of the situation, particularly regarding the circumstances of the aircraft’s downing.
What Happens Next?
As of now, authorities from both sides have not disclosed any further details. However, the recovery operation and the growing international interest suggest that this event may lead to more diplomatic scrutiny in the days to come.
