Islamabad, July 29, 2025: Construction on all five sections of the Hyderabad to Sukkur Motorway (M-6) is scheduled to begin at the same time within the ongoing fiscal year, as confirmed by National Highways Authority (NHA) Chairman, Muhammad Shehryar Sultan.
During a briefing to the Senate Standing Committee on Communications, Sultan clarified that the Rs15 billion reserved in the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) is designated for project oversight rather than the initiation of physical construction. He further mentioned that talks with global lenders and investors are close to finalization, and ground-breaking on all sections is likely by March or April 2026.
Spanning 306 kilometers, the M-6 project now carries a revised estimated cost of Rs. 363.70 billion and is expected to be completed within a 30-month timeframe.

The third portion of the Hyderabad to Sukkur Motorway is likely to receive backing from the OPEC Fund and the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD), while the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) has expressed intent to extend financial assistance of $475 million for sections four and five.
In a separate agenda, the committee reviewed the Sehwan Bypass under the CAREC Tranche-1 scheme. As the current ADB-supported project nears its end, the bypass could not be included and has instead been proposed through a separate PC-I for possible inclusion in the upcoming PSDP.
