The Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) clarified on Wednesday that it has not yet reached any final decision regarding the withholding tax.

In a press release, CCI said that a statement issued after today’s meeting noted that some members held a preliminary discussion on the matter, during which differing opinions were expressed. The members suggested consulting relevant experts before forming a conclusion.

It was agreed that the issue will be discussed in detail in the Council’s upcoming session, with input from specialists. The CII emphasized that no decision has so far been made on the subject.

Earlier it was reported that CII has declared the withholding tax on money withdrawals or transfers as unjust and un-Islamic.

Subsequently sources said that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has decided to challenge the ruling.
