Islamabad, March 14, 2025: Cricket Australia marked the festival of Holi in a unique way, bringing fans closer to the sport with a special initiative.
On March 14, the Australian cricket board organized a trophy tour of the 2023 ICC World Cup across Melbourne’s major Holi celebrations.
The event allowed cricket enthusiasts to take pictures with the prestigious trophy, making the colorful festival even more memorable.
As part of the festivities, Cricket Australia also distributed exclusive Big Bash League (BBL) and Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) merchandise, including players’ hats.
The initiative underscored the board’s commitment to diversity and inclusivity, showcasing how cricket unites people across cultures.
The 2023 ICC World Cup holds special significance for Australia, as the national team, under the leadership of Pat Cummins, secured its sixth title in a dominant campaign.
In the final against India, Australia’s bowlers restricted the tournament hosts to 240 runs in 50 overs. Mitchell Starc played a crucial role, claiming three wickets, including those of key batters KL Rahul and Shubman Gill.
Josh Hazlewood and Cummins also contributed with two wickets each, keeping India under pressure.
Chasing the target, Australian opener Travis Head delivered a match-winning performance, scoring a brilliant 137 off 120 balls.
His innings, laced with 15 boundaries and four sixes, anchored Australia’s chase. Marnus Labuschagne supported him with an unbeaten 58, guiding the team to victory with seven overs to spare.
