Islamabad, Jan 5: The City Traffic Police (CTP) Rawalpindi has made significant strides in empowering women and ensuring traffic discipline throughout 2024. Under the leadership of City Traffic Officer (CTO), Beenish Fatima, the ‘Women on Wheels Program’ trained over 1,258 female learners in driving, marking a pivotal step towards increasing female participation in road traffic activities.
Women on Wheels Program
The Women on Wheels Program saw remarkable progress, with 1,258 women trained in 2024, while an additional 112 women received training on bike and scooter riding. This initiative also involved the purchase of four new bikes/scooters to support the program. The CTP Rawalpindi also appointed female instructors for the first time, ensuring greater inclusion in training processes.
Modern Driving Simulator and Technological Advancements
In a bid to modernize driving education, CTP Rawalpindi introduced a modern driving simulator at its headquarters. This simulator, featuring components like gear, clutch, accelerator, steering wheel, and brake, allows learners to experience realistic road-driving conditions and practice various driving situations safely. The CTO emphasized that the simulator helps learners understand traffic rules and equips them to handle emergency situations effectively.
Traffic Enforcement and Awareness Campaigns
In 2024, CTP Rawalpindi issued over 848,000 challans for traffic rule violations, with a total fine amounting to Rs. 490 million. The traffic violations ranged from one-way violations, negligent driving, lane violations, to driving without licenses. A notable focus was placed on school van safety, with over 3,480 school vans challaned, and 179 vans impounded for non-compliance with safety regulations.
Public Awareness and Licensing Services
The CTP Rawalpindi actively promoted traffic rule awareness, conducting 280 awareness lectures, 38 traffic walks, and 190 FM radio programs. In 2024, 108,796 new licenses were issued, alongside 310,340 licensing services. The traffic education wing’s efforts helped to maintain public discipline and encourage safe driving habits.
Overall Traffic Safety Measures
To ensure smooth traffic flow and reduce accidents, CTP Rawalpindi continued enforcing regulations and educating the public. Their commitment to safety is reflected in their high volume of traffic rule enforcement, along with the ongoing campaigns for public awareness, road safety, and vehicle fitness.
