Pakistan Customs officials at Jinnah International Airport successfully foiled two major attempts to smuggle drugs worth over Rs114 million through the International Mail Office in Karachi.
According to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), the first parcel, which had been declared as “amulets,” arrived from Thailand. Upon inspection, customs officers recovered 1.69 kilograms of marijuana valued at around Rs. 52 million.
In the second case, officers intercepted a parcel labeled as a “vacuum cleaner” that had been shipped from Belgium. The package contained 1,945 MDMA (Ecstasy) pills, worth approximately Rs. 62 million in the illegal market.
An FBR spokesperson said the surge in global e-commerce has led to a growing number of cross-border parcels, some of which are being exploited by criminal networks to traffic drugs through mail systems.
