Islamabad, Apr 2, 2025: This year we commemorate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Czechia and Pakistan. The Czech Embassy, together with the Agency Bloompakistan.com, prepared a series of articles which will introduce main industry sectors of the Czech Republic.
We believe Pakistani and Czech companies have great potential for further cooperation. Let’s start with healthcare.
Czech healthcare system is a universal system based on mandatory insurance in which both employers and employees participate.
Czech healthcare is ranked, by the quality of the complex services, as 14th in Europe, just below Portugal and two positions ahead of the United Kingdom.
The Czech healthcare system ranks 8th overall in the World Index of Healthcare Innovation, with an overall score of 49.80.
Internationally, Czech doctors participate in the government-run medical humanitarian programme MEDEVAC.
This flagship programme of Czech humanitarian aid is focused on medical care to vulnerable population groups in regions affected by natural disasters, regions affected by migration, burdened with a large number of refugees and in places where specialized medical care is not readily available.
Treatment is provided free of charge and exclusively to civilians.
The MEDEVAC programme is implemented through humanitarian evacuations of people with health issues to Czechia for treatment, the deployment of Czech teams of doctors abroad, training of foreign healthcare personnel, and specialized internships in Czechia for physicians from the areas hit by humanitarian crises.
Moreover, the production of medical devices has a long and very successful tradition in Czechia. Czech healthcare manufacturers are one of the most active exporters in the country, facilitating projects all over the world.
Czech industrial tradition meets their commitment to innovation that extends beyond the confines of the laboratory.
Through collaborative efforts, member companies of the Czech Health Technology Institute and Association of Manufacturers and Suppliers of Medical Devices have developed comprehensive solutions tailored to meet the diverse needs of healthcare systems worldwide.
From field hospitals equipped to handle emergencies in remote locations to advanced patient transport systems capable of navigating challenging terrain.
With successful implementations already underway in countries like Zambia, Senegal, Syria, or Ukraine, solutions are empowering healthcare systems, strengthening their capacity to respond to crises, and improving patient outcomes.

While several healthcare manufacturers are already supplying their technologies to Pakistan, there’s room for more.
Top-tier Czech Universities, such as Charles University in Prague, Masaryk University in Brno, and Palacky University in Olomouc are preparing future doctors from all over the world, including from Pakistan.
It is these universities that, in cooperation with businesses, facilitate new inventions.
A number of world-known innovations are Czech – modern soft contact lenses, polarography, and the development of antiretroviral drugs are some of the main examples.
Furthermore, Czechs are among the world leaders in neonatology, pediatrics, burn treatments, traumatology, transplant medicine and emergency medicine.
The comprehensive Czech approach is based on top quality product and a complex post-sale service system that includes technical capacity building of medical staff.
