On Thursday, people remembered Ustad Salamat Ali Khan, one of the finest classical music maestros, who passed away 23 years ago.
Salamat Ali Khan, who was raised in Hoshiarpur and was born in 1934, together with his older brother Nazakat Ali Khan, had their classical music debut at the young age of five, guided by their father Ustad Vilayat Ali Khan.
He received the Pride of Performance award from the Pakistani government in 1977. In addition, he received Sitara-e-Imtiaz as payment for his musical services.
He passed away in Lahore on July 11, 2001.
