Islamabad, May 28, 2025: In a gripping Indian Premier League encounter on Tuesday, Lucknow Super Giants’ rising star Digvesh Rathi found himself at the heart of the drama but walked away without a wicket in his final outing of the season.

The young leg-spinner, who has impressed throughout the tournament, had two golden opportunities to remove Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s stand-in skipper Jitesh Sharma but both narrowly missed.

The action peaked in the 17th over of RCB’s innings. On the very first ball, Jitesh attempted a reverse sweep but sent it straight to Ayush Badoni at point. While Rathi broke into his signature celebration, Jitesh looked visibly frustrated, knowing he had mistimed it.

But just when LSG thought they had the breakthrough, the on-field umpire referred the delivery upstairs to check for a potential no-ball. To LSG’s dismay, the third umpire confirmed it was a backfoot no-ball.

Later in the same over, on the fifth delivery, Rathi made another attempt to get rid of Jitesh. Noticing him backing up too far at the non-striker’s end, Rathi paused in his action and whipped off the bails. Once again, the matter went to the third umpire, and this time, the verdict was “not out” due to Rathi’s point of release being considered too late for the dismissal to be valid.

Adding to the twist, LSG captain Rishabh Pant eventually chose to withdraw the appeal during the review process. Back in the RCB pit, senior batter Virat Kohli wasn’t pleased with the drama unfolding. Cameras caught him fuming over the failed dismissal attempt.

Rathi, though wicketless, showed sharp instincts and competitive edge, highlighting why he’s been one of LSG’s standout performers this season, even if luck wasn’t on his side in this particular match.
