Islamabad, Apr 21, 2025: In a major breakthrough for aviation and tourism, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has applauded the restart of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) direct flights from Lahore to Baku, terming it a turning point in boosting regional cooperation and tourism between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.
Taking to social media platform X, the premier expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “I wholeheartedly celebrate the revival of nonstop air travel from Lahore to Baku after a two-year pause. This step is a key development for enhancing people-to-people contact and improving air connectivity between our two friendly nations.”
The PIA Flights to Baku first resumed flight, piloted by Captain Shahida Ismail, highlighted the increasing representation of Pakistani women in the aviation sector.
PM Shehbaz commended this achievement as a symbol of progress and empowerment, recognizing women’s expanding role across all professional domains.
The Prime Minister also praised the continuous efforts of Aviation Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif and his dedicated team for strengthening Pakistan’s air travel network and fostering diplomatic ties through better transport infrastructure.
The official relaunch ceremony took place on Sunday and was graced by Minister Khawaja Asif alongside Ambassador of Azerbaijan Khazar Farhadov, reflecting the growing strategic partnership between the two countries.
The direct flights between Lahore and Baku are expected to significantly boost tourism, business travel, and cultural exchange.
In a celebratory message, PIA announced, “Today marks the beginning of a new journey — we’re heading to Baku! Here’s to a stronger bond. Long live the Pak-Azerbaijan friendship.”
This initiative aligns with Pakistan’s broader vision to improve international outreach, attract tourists, and increase travel convenience for both countries.
The Lahore to Baku direct flights not only cut travel time but also provide a seamless connection for entrepreneurs, tourists, and families.
