Islamabad, Mar 26, 2025: Discord has rolled out a significant update for its desktop app, bringing a new Onyx dark mode.
A refined call interface, and an improved game overlay. This update aligns the desktop experience more closely with the mobile version while enhancing functionality and usability.
New Dark Mode and Theme Options
One of the most notable changes is the Onyx dark mode, which replaces the traditional dark theme with a deeper black optimized for OLED screens.
Alongside this, Discord now offers an additional Dark theme, bringing the total number of free theme options to four.
The update also introduces a resizable channel list and better spacing throughout the interface, improving legibility and reducing visual clutter.

Refined Call Interface
The call interface has been redesigned for a more intuitive experience. A new status bar now clearly indicates whether a user’s microphone or camera is on, making it easier to manage calls with minimal hassle.
Revamped Game Overlay
Discord’s game overlay has received a major upgrade. Previously, the overlay impacted game performance by directly integrating with game windows.
Now, it features independent widgets, allowing for smoother performance and greater customization similar to the Xbox Game Bar and Steam overlay.
Users can reposition widgets freely, and the new system is less likely to trigger anti-cheat mechanisms, ensuring broader compatibility with different games.
Additional Enhancements
Along with these functional updates, Discord has refined its UI by tweaking colors and illustrations for a cleaner, more consistent design across both desktop and mobile platforms.
According to Peter Sellis, Discord’s SVP of Product, these updates aim to reduce visual noise and improve user experience across the board.
With these changes, Discord continues to refine its platform, making it more accessible, efficient, and visually appealing for its growing user base.
