Islamabad, Sep 22: Incarcerated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has expressed strong optimism about the success of his party’s upcoming rally in Lahore, which is scheduled for tomorrow (Saturday).
Speaking from Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, Khan described the event as a “do-or-die situation” for the party, emphasizing the urgency of public participation despite the obstacles posed by the government.
Khan, who has been imprisoned for 15 months, encouraged supporters to remain unafraid of being jailed, reiterating his long-standing message of constitutional adherence
. He urged the nation to attend the rally, emphasizing its importance for Pakistan’s future. He also voiced concerns about the potential damage to the judiciary, especially the Supreme Court, warning that any attempts to undermine it could turn Pakistan into a “banana republic.”
Khan criticized recent constitutional amendments, claiming that their intentions are now clear, and warned that the destruction of the judiciary could lead to the erosion of democracy and freedom. He expressed concerns about long detentions without trial and criticized the extension of “three umpires” through amendments.
The former prime minister also linked Pakistan’s future to investment, stressing that only overseas Pakistanis would invest under current conditions.
In his address, Khan took aim at political rivals Asif Ali Zardari and Nawaz Sharif, accusing them of stashing wealth abroad and evading accountability.
He also claimed that under his government, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) was on track to recover significant sums before the introduction of the NRO-2, which he believes weakened the institution.
