The drug regulatory authority Pakistan (DRAP) has warned the user base of some fake batches of medicines. This warning was as a result of extensive inquiries that found out that there was a network dealing in counterfeit drugs under the names of large local and international brands.

Authorities in Punjab and Gilgith-Balistan had reported suspicious medicines, which led to laboratory tests. The results proved that some popular medications are fake and present a big threat to health of people who use them. To ensure that everyone, including pharmacists, avoids these counterfeits drugs, DRAP alert contains detailed photos of the same, hence easy identification.

The counterfeit medicines deal with a variety of treatments, including curing fever, body pain, swelling, digestive disorder, chest and throat infection, fungal diseases, gynaecology and neuropathy.

These include the:

  • Brexin Tablets (Pain reliever) – Batch No. 1192087
  • Zetro 500mg Tablets (Throat infections) – Batch No. F18031
  • Augmentin 625mg Tablets (Chest infections) – Batch No. 7F4W
  • Tonoflex-P Tablets (Pain reliever) – Batch No. KFM145
  • Feston 10mg Tablets (Gynecological conditions) – Batch No. 41160
  • Gabica 300mg Capsules (Neuropathy) – Batch No. 403C27
  • Amcomox Capsules (Throat infections) – Batch No. 08
  • OmniDol N-Uk Tablets (Fever and body pain) – Batch No. 1220

The DRAP warning focuses on the alert of the patients and the retailers to avoid further circulation of these medicines which are dangerous in nature. Consumers are reminded to report all suspicious medications to the authorities immediately and check the authenticity of his or her medications prior to use.
