The Netherlands’ Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp has resigned after failing to secure cabinet support for punitive measures against Israel over its actions in Gaza.
Veldkamp had urged the coalition government to adopt sanctions and restrictive policies against the Jewish state, citing mounting humanitarian concerns. However, his proposal was rejected by key government partners, triggering his decision to step down.
His resignation marks a major political setback for the Dutch coalition, which has struggled to maintain consensus on foreign policy amid rising international criticism of Israel’s military campaign in Gaza.
