The Punjab Safe City Authority (PSCA) has launched the e-challan system in Gujranwala from Wednesday, marking the end of manual ticketing and the start of an automated traffic monitoring era.
Under this system, 1,066 high-definition cameras installed across the district will record traffic violations such as not wearing helmets, driving without seatbelts, and using non-standard number plates. Once detected, challans will automatically be issued and sent directly to the violators through mobile messages.
A PSCA representative said that apart from crime detection, these cameras will now help maintain discipline on the roads. “Our goal is to ensure safer and more responsible driving by enforcing the law through technology,” the spokesperson added.
SP Safe City Authority Gujranwala, Irfan Salhriya, said the system had been under testing for the past two months and is now fully operational. “From today, e-challans are being issued round the clock. The cameras will catch violations without any manual interference,” he explained.

Earlier, over half a million vehicles were checked manually each day by wardens and patrolling officers. With the e-challan system in Gujranwala, cameras will now handle most of the monitoring work, while on-ground teams will assist in special cases.
Officials have warned that unpaid fines within the given time will lead to double penalties or legal action. SP Salhriya advised citizens to follow traffic laws strictly. “Every driver should wear helmets, fasten seatbelts, and keep licenses ready — the cameras won’t overlook anything,” he said.
