Islamabad, June 25, 2025: The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has taken a major leap towards modernizing travel by finalizing the design for smart e-Gates at Islamabad, Karachi, and Lahore international airports. This initiative is part of a broader plan to digitize border control and streamline the travel experience for millions of passengers each year.

The project’s design phase was successfully concluded after an intense three-day workshop involving consultations with key stakeholders from both national and international aviation sectors. These sessions were crucial in aligning all operational and technical goals of the project.

Once operational, these biometric-based e-Gates will automate immigration checks, significantly reducing passenger wait times while enhancing security at Pakistan’s busiest airports. According to officials, this smart solution will allow for faster processing at arrival and departure terminals, minimizing human error and improving border integrity.

To support this high-tech rollout, PAA has partnered with Germany’s M2P Consulting, a globally recognized aviation and mobility advisory firm. M2P will now begin drafting the complete technical specifications and tender documents to invite bids from leading global e-Gate solution providers.

A senior official from the PAA emphasized that the project aligns with their vision to implement smart airport technologies in Pakistan, ensuring safe, efficient, and passenger-friendly air travel.
