Islamabad, June 29, 2025: A 5.5 magnitude earthquake in Balochistan struck Musakhel and surrounding areas early Saturday morning, leaving at least five people injured and several houses damaged.

The tremor occurred at 3:24 AM, with its epicenter located 56 km northeast of Musakhel at a depth of 28 kilometers, according to the Seismological Center in Islamabad.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) confirmed that two homes collapsed completely, while five others were partially damaged. Local officials reported that five people were injured, including two in critical condition. A boundary wall of a government high school also collapsed due to the force of the quake.

Witnesses described the tremors lasting nearly 30 seconds, triggering fear among residents. “It felt like the entire ground was moving. People rushed out of their homes,” said a resident of Musakhel.

Deputy Commissioner Bilal Shabbir stated that hundreds of houses sustained minor to moderate damage, and an assessment survey is underway. Emergency teams have been deployed, and medical aid is being provided.

Tremors were also felt in Barkhan and other nearby areas, sparking fears of aftershocks. Authorities have advised residents to stay alert and report any structural issues. Relief operations are in progress, with PDMA teams gathering damage reports from the field.

This earthquake in Balochistan highlights the region’s vulnerability and the urgent need for improved preparedness.
