Islamabad, June 9, 2025: The literacy rate in the country has reached an encouraging 61 percent, reflecting steady progress in education.
Male literacy stands at 68 percent, while female literacy has risen to 52.8 percent, showing a narrowing gender gap.
Currently, there are 269 universities across the country, with 160 in the public sector and 109 in the private sector, providing diverse opportunities for higher education.
The government has allocated a substantial budget of 61.1 billion PKR to support higher education initiatives.

However, only 38 percent of faculty members hold PhD degrees, indicating room for growth in academic qualifications among university staff. Overall, these developments highlight a positive trend toward educational advancement in the nation.
